If you’re a female entrepreneur, or even a leader in an organization, then I have an important (albeit easy) question for you...

What does the organisation exist for?

It's for profit and service to others, right?

Easy enough. However, whether you’re an entrepreneur or the leader of a division in a company...

The best question you can ask yourself if you want to maximize results as quickly as possible is:

Do you know exactly where you are now in key areas, and what you can do differently in order to move to the next level?

In other words, do you know the health of your business?

Gaining insight, or a “snapshot” into where you’re at now is one of the most powerful tools I use to help entrepreneurs and leaders grow fast.

For a fast, free tool to get a snapshot of your business, check out this free Business Acceleration Roadmap Quiz.

I can tell you from personal experience that this has been critically important for me, because in my own business journey, I have seen days when the bank account is going down and the revenue is not coming in.

For example, the whole “cash flow management thing” - which is one aspect of my Quiz, was completely alien to me and how my business and family almost suffered. It's bad, not just for the business, but bad for you as an entrepreneur, because you’re working as hard as you can, yet constantly asking yourself: "What am I doing wrong?"

However, it's not about what you are doing wrong. It's what you don't know, and how to fix it.

When you have a clear picture of where you are NOW and where are the gaps and where the gaps are that are preventing you from getting to the next step, then your journey becomes much, much easier.

For me and the entrepreneurs that I coach, there are a 6 big things that we need to look at.

Tip #1: Get Total Clarity

First of all, we need to make sure that you have great clarity as to what your business is going to be. In other words, what your business is now and what you want it to be.

My Business Acceleration Roadmap Quiz will tell you where you are right now, and help you be very clear about why your business exists.

Ask yourself, what does your business mean to you? For some it's like the baby that they carried for the longest time… but the baby doesn't grow up!

Are you clear who you are serving, and how you’re serving them? Who are your customers? Address your business and revenue model and see if there are any gaps.

Lastly, what does success look like 12 months from now for you? What does success look like three years from now?

When you know all of these things, then you have clarity in your mind about who you're serving, how you're going to generate revenue, and what you're working towards in one year and three year timeframe. That is crucial.

Tip #2: Know Your Numbers

Next up, it’s super important to be clear about your finances. This is something that’s always on my radar because I have had a bad “cash flow” patch -- and it was very stressful.

I want you to know on a scale of one to ten where you are in terms of cash flow. On a scale of one to ten, what's your revenue? Do you know your revenue stream? What do your expenses look like and what's your profitability?

Those numbers are the big ones, so ask yourself if you have clarity around that. Be able to know where the revenue is coming from. From a finance point of view, that's number one.

Tip #3: Master Your Marketing

If you're just starting up -- if you are just thinking about the idea and you want to be an entrepreneur -- having that product and marketing is going to be your key, key, key focus.

My question is how, on a scale of one to ten, are you clear on what products and services you're offering? Have you validated your products and services?

If you have, how are you creating your products and services? What's the development of the products and services? What are your marketing efforts? Are you clear on a scale of one to ten on your marketing efforts?

What are your channels that you are reaching people through? You need to have a clear answer for all these questions.

Tip #4: Create Effective Systems

Next up, how effective and efficient are your operations systems in terms of technology and communications between team members.

Are you clear on what is needed?

Do you have the right systems in place for gathering leads, generating sales, managing projects, and communicating with your team and contractors?

If so, how effective or efficient it is?

If not, then what could you put in place that would make your life and business at least 2x easier?

Tip #5: Sales, Sales, Sales

Next up is sales, which is critical, because without sales, there's no revenue.

Without revenue, we're not going to have a sustainable business. What are your sales channels? Where are your sales going to come from? How are you going to get out there and get the sales in?

These will not just come in on their own.

How are you going to the generate leads?

Then, another thing that I was very challenged about when I started out is, how do you close a sale?

If you’re not strong with sales, then you can hire talented people who are able to do it for you. Or, you pick up the skill -- you practise and improve to be able to fill those gaps, because you know those are the gaps that are preventing you from having a sustainable business.

They’re preventing you from scaling the business.

Tip #6: Lead With Authenticity

The next piece is, on a scale from one to ten are you clear about how you're conveying your vision and value to your team?

In terms of the culture, how clear are you in conveying to them the leadership that they are expected to have as each individual within the team?

The top performing business owners I’ve worked with all have a system to make sure that communication is common and clear for everybody.

Is your system effective and efficient?

The classic example is a leader sends a short, rushed email and expects the reader to know exactly what they mean.

That's not a great way to do it! When you look at communication, the very definition of communication, is that the listener/reader gets the message. You might have sent the message out but, they didn't get the message.

Your Next Steps

That is a very quick checklist on what's the health of your business and what will it take from you to move from a business that you're just starting (or you've already started out and you want to stabilise and systemize it) to something that’s sustainable, scalable, and saleable.

Even if you’re at the next stage where you are looking at how can I scale up and grow my business… this applies to you to.

At every one of these stages, there are the different areas I've talked about from finance, operations technology, marketing products, sales, and people in leadership, however, the key is knowing where the gaps are and what to focus on to get to your next level.
